HONOLULU – Fans will not be allowed to attend athletic events to open the 2021-22 academic year hosted by Hawai’i Pacific University until further notice.

With the recent record surge in COVID-19 cases resulting in overwhelmed hospital capacity, City and County of Honolulu has not approved fan attendance for the sporting events.

The ban affects Friday’s women’s soccer contest with Tusculum at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium and next weekend’s volleyball contests with Alaska and Alaska Anchorage at The Shark Tank.

The decision to host fans for other events will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks.

As a consolation for the late notice for tonight’s soccer contest, HPU and our video streaming provider PrestoStretch will provide the usual pay-per-view video webstream for free. The link is available at HPUSharks.com.
