BRUNDAGE, Idaho – Hilde Iren Sato earned two individual victories to highlight the Battlin’ Bears’ excellent weekend at Brundage Mountain.
Rocky Ski’s first conference competition was a successful one. Due to weather and surface conditions, the weekend featured a single Giant Slalom run on Saturday and Sunday.
The Rocky men started the weekend by earning the top five finishes on Saturday. William Mjelde earned an individual victory with a 1:07.05. Fredrik Straume (1:08.10), Adam Wrenkler (1;08.32), Ian McCormick (1:09.00), and Mads Fondevik Syversen (1:09.91) all finished in the top five on Saturday. Felix Besser (1:14.05) finished in ninth to round out the top-10 placers for the Battlin’ Bears, who finished first overall with a team time of 3:23.47.
The Rocky women saw similar success as they turned in the top-3 finishes of the day. Hilde Iren Sato led the way with a first-place finish, crossing in 1:06.66. Bergitte Varne finished second with a time of 1:07.8 and Synne Kvinlog finished third with a time of 1:08.43. Sofia Brustia took sixth with a time of 1:13.40. The Rocky women took first overall with a team time of 3:22.89.
More success came for the Battlin’ Bears on Sunday, as Fredrik Straume took an individual victory for the men, crossing in 1:08.92. Adam Wrenkler took second with a time of 1:09.84. Rocky took fourth through seventh place in the rankings, with Mads Fondevik Syversen (1:10.74), Ian McCormick (1:11.71), Zachary Bion (1:11.72), and Felix Besser (1:12.83) rounding out Rocky’s scorers, who raced to another first place finish with a team time of 3:29.50.
On the women’s side, Hilde Iren Sato took another individual victory with a time of 1:05.84. Synne Kvinlog took second place on Sunday with a time of 1:06.93, with Bergitte Varne taking third place with a time of 1:08.01. Sofia Brustia turned in another sixth-place finish with a time of 1:10.36. The Battlin’ Bears finished first as a team with a time of 3:20.78.
The Battlin’ Bears will look to continue their momentum as they return home to host the USSA Qualifier Predator Cup starting Friday, January 26th in Red Lodge.
