INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 2024 NCAA West Region WSOC tournament has a PacWest flavor, four flavors to be exact.
The Pacific West Conference has four of the seven teams selected for the tournament, which will begin on Thursday in San Diego and Pomona. PacWest regular season champion and tournament winner Point Loma is the No. 2 seed and one of the hosts, and will welcome fellow conference teams Hawaii Hilo and Concordia to the PLNU Soccer Field.
Azusa Pacific is also in the field and they will travel a very short distance to Pomona. The opening matches are on Thursday in the single elimination tournament, with the winners advancing to Saturday play.
No. 2 seed Point Loma will face No. 7 Simon Fraser at 1 pm on Thursday. The winner advances to Saturday’s match to take on the winner of Hawaii Hilo and Concordia. The Vulcans and Golden Eagles just met this past Thursday in the PacWest semifinals in Irvine, with Hilo claiming a 4-2 win.
In Pomona, Cal Poly is the No. 1 seed and gets a first round bye. The Broncos will await the winner of No. 4 seed Azusa Pacific and No. 5 Western Washington. The Cougars and Vikings will play at 3 pm on Thursday.
This is the most conference teams to qualify for the NCAA tournament in PacWest history. Point Loma is the defending national champion, while Hawaii Hilo (2021, 2022) and Concordia (2022, 2023) have been recent visitors to the postseason. Azusa Pacific, who finished fifth in the PacWest but comes into the tournament as the No. 4 seed, will be making their first NCAA appearance since 2016.
